October 15, 2021
Friday, 6:00 – 8:00 PM
October 23, 2021
Saturday, TBA
Still level: all
Ages: adult (18+)

In this two-session Friday Fun, instructor Russell Ford will guide you through making masks out of clay. You will begin in the OSA classroom for the first session, where you will construct your mask. Tools and Raku clay are provided, along with beverages and snacks. Masks for COVID-19 safety must be worn at all times inside OSA facilities. For the second session, you will join Russell at his Vancouver studio to choose and apply glaze, and witness the unique process of Raku firing.

Unpredictable is a term often associated with the results of this process, though it pays to be open to what the spirit of the kiln decides. Raku firing is a group effort. Though we will have an experienced crew handling hot stuff, you will be invited to participate in ways that suit your comfort level. Firing may take several hours. For those concerned about minimizing contact time with groups, your mask will be fired in order of glaze completion, and you can leave with your treasure as soon as it cools. The firing space is outdoors and social distancing will be observed, but face masking will not be enforced at the outdoor studio due to heat. In light of this, this Friday Fun event is only open to fully vaccinated participants.
